Traditionally a summer favorite for the entire family in the Caribbean thanks to its high dose of Vitamin C, hibiscus tea has long been used both in the East and the West as a remedy for dehydration. Known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Luo Shen Hua, the health benefits of hibiscus tea include anti aging, weight loss management, blood pressure control and cholesterol level decrease. Enjoy this treat frozen on a hot afternoon and ignite your fire!


1 1/2 cups dried hibiscus flowers
6 cups water
3/4 cup sugar


1. Bring all of the ingredients to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to a simmer and continue cooking until the liquid is reduced by half, to about 3 cups. This should take 20 to 40 minutes or so, depending on the size of the pot. Remove from the heat and allow to steep for 30 minutes.
